Engine Replacement

Big question I've heard (WA) state that if you must change out an engine on a 91-94 model at least install a 96 engine. Can I move up to a 99 with reverse??? Note; present bike DOES have reverse

Go for it!It'll work.Pretty sure 98 was the first year for the better trans though not sure why they told you at least a 96.
If I'da known it would last this long,I'da taken better care of it.

Hey guys thanks for the tips. Found a 97 engine with 135k miles for $249, 250 shipping a little less than 1k labor. Went over the spec with my mechanic he was pleased and purchasing from a reputable vender, we are replacing belts, checking water pump, everything. All roughly for $1500. Thanks for your input and solid guidance.

Sounds like your grimace has turned into a smile. Glad you got a deal that you are happy with.
