side cover replacement

Postby jtd » Wed Jun 17, 2015 9:57 am

Has anyone replaced a side cover on a GL1500 and moved the Goldwing emblem ($65) and script text ($40) over to the new cover ($330)? Really Honda? $400+ for a side cover? Emblems appear to be adhered as there are no push pins on the back side of the cover, only small studs. Thanks for looking.

Or buy a new set of aftermarket covers for $113, and pay another $30-40 to have them painted to match your bike:

As for the side covers, those little studs with the retainers on the inside are in fact what hold the logos onto the outside of the covers:

When I got my bike the PO had already replaced the side covers with chrome ones.
You can also get them at CycleMax for $138 and not worry about painting or the emblems.

Wow. Thanks for the replies guys. Cyclemax could be a good option. Tried e-bay but struck out in spectre red color.

Keep checking e-bay. I ended up finding one that would fit correctly, I had a 1990SE, and just painted it to match. Colorite has the correct base and top coat paints and it was really pretty easy. Matched perfectly. I was also able to find the emblems on e-bay. Replaced one cover and emblems on both for considerably less than a new OEM cover.
