Thermostat ...

Postby shadow02 » Wed Jun 17, 2015 1:03 pm

Greetings fellow WIngnutz! Shadow here with a question or 2: Regarding the thermostat on a 1988 1500 GL, how does one know it is bad or heading toward bad? Do they make 180"s for a motorcycle and can I use it on this bike?
Thanks for the help-

Unless a fail safe style thermostat is used, a conventional type fails when closed, then the coolant doesn't circulate and it overheats. They either open as designed or fail closed nothing in between.

Tinkering with different rated thermostat's than the O.E.M. spec "could possibly"cause slow warm up and poor cold temp performance.

Honda Civic's and Mazda MX-5 of the 70's used the same thermostat. The thing to check is the temperature of opening..........
Used one of these...... They were listed for €15, while the same one at the 'dealer' was €50,- ........

My choice was made quickly and never had any regrets............
Cedo nulli

I'm running a cooler thermostat in my '99 SE with no trouble at all. The warm up time is about the same as before. I bought the one for the Civic from Napa as it was the same part for less $$.
