Problems with dash lights and gauges

Postby speedy1 » Wed Jun 17, 2015 4:18 pm

I have a problem with my 1995 GL1500. The problem goes like this:

The bike cranks and runs fine
Headlights, blinkers, turn signals and brake lights work and high beam indicator light works
Cruise control and indicator lights works.
Back lights on dash work

Now to the problem
When you turn bike on I don’t have any of these that work.
Neutral light, OD, reverse, side stand, fuel light, oil light, temp or gas gauge

My on bike volt meter is at 12.32 v (not running)
Idle volts is 13.35 and 14.02 @ 2000 rpm’s

Voltage at battery taken with volt meter is 12.87, 12.5 with switch on
And 13.8 @ idle and increases with rpm’s
While riding the bike today I did see the voltage @ 14.20

Any suggestions why I don’t have the lights and gauges listed above..

The lights and gauges are powered by relay #3 and a 15 amp fuse #8.
The relay should click when the key is turned on...
Both can be substituted for testing.
Relay 3 is marked . Tail/main relay.

Thanks Virgil, will check relay. I have checked fuses and all looked okay, but will give # 8 a special look.
Will also check relay you mentioned. Last time I check the temp in my shop it was 108*, will wait for it to
cool down.

Virgil you are " The Man ". The relay was indeed the problem. I will make a trip to town tomorrow
to pick me up a couple. Sounds like a spare will be a good ideal..

Problem solved!!!!!!!

You're almost close enough for me to buy you lunch
Thanks
Floyd.

Dont go to the dealer or bike shop..A local auto parts place should have them...It's just a relay...I thought I heard that Honda wants over $25 for one....
Take yours with you to NAPA or a compentent supplier...
You may even order a few spares from the "store" on this site.
Thanks for lunch..It was good.
