OUGH OOOH!!

Postby jtornese » Sat Jun 20, 2015 8:22 pm

Closed the trunk today on my 1993 Gl1500, now it won't unlatch neither the release lever, or key will open the lid?
Is there a way to get it open again?

Try pushing down lightly on the lid and turn the key to the LEFT

Got it open with the coat hanger!!!!!!!!

Once open it took me about an hour to figure out why it it wouldnt work without the coat hanger. There was a black plastic "L" shape piece that had come away from the big long bar that moves. Got it back together and in working order now. Although, I am definately going to add the wire tie latch backup as shown in the link that was posted. Thanks again.

If you're talking about these latches, then it's a known problem:

GL1500 Trunk Latches

These plastic latches are known to wear and break over time, leaving your trunk either open, or unable to be opened. One of our users here fabricated some replacement ones out of steel, and was selling them - I bought a set and put them on my bike, and they work extremely well:
