metal in clyendar

Postby jrickel15 » Mon Jul 06, 2015 9:01 pm

have 88 1500. today bike stopped with noise in engine. After taking out plugs. found center right side cylinder had metal in it and plug was trashed.

Assume piston gone.. can just one cylinder be replaced? What need to occur first.

thanks
Jimmy

Check the timing belts...If a cylinder is trashed,it may be cheaper to replace the whole engine...I'd be looking into the bore for confirmation before you do much else....

even if only 1 piston is bad they all have to come out major rebuild if you can do the work yourself you would know what you have. if you have to have a shop do it it will cost more then replacing the bike last one I did I had about 1600 in parts and misc. there are some very good eng out there a lot less money

Thanks for your feedback on 88 1500. It seems a new engine or at least another is the answer. Having someone put it in has a cost. Any idea of costs?
