Postby CaptLen » Thu Jul 16, 2015 5:18 pm

I'd appreciate it if you GL1500 gurus would help me out. I ride an 1800, so I'm more familiar with them. My buddy is looking for a bike and likes the 'Wing, and we heard about. '94 for sale. Things to know when checking one out? All info appreciated.

Leaky shift shaft seal. Check the fork seals for signs of leakage. If there aren't any records when the timing belts were changed, make sure you change them if you buy the bike.

And the usual Goldwing things - check for excessive driveline lash (could indicate unlubricated driveline splines), bearings, etc.

With the 1500 like the 1800 past service records are important. Miles are not a big deal if you know the maintenance history. The 1500 is bullet proof and many have gone 200 - 300,000 miles with regular maintenance. I have owned 3 1500's and 2 1800. I now own a 97 SE that I bought in November 2014 with 30,000 miles on it. Great bike and since my riding time is small due to I'm RVing a lot now the price was right and the bike was in great condition. If the 1500 he is looking at looks good and the miles are good and you can get some service records go for it
the 1800 has several issues also. Here are just a few
