master cylinder rebuild 1988 gold wing

Post by trackstarone » Sat Jul 18, 2015 7:31 am

Recently put new OEM Honda brake parts in my gold wing. Here's the dilemma. The parts are the same as what was in my master cylinder except one difference. The piston in the new honda parts has no wiper on it . Factory sealed bag---never opened.checked with the online company I ordered from and double checked to make sure correct part number on parts bag and part number I ordered match. THEY DO---so they say these are the correct parts--- MY Question ---will this give me a problem if I put this new piston in there without that wiper on it? Anybody out there run across this? I do so hope to get some response to this .CONFUSED...MAN...

I think you're talking about this seal:

If that's the case, most rebuild kits come with that seal, but it is not installed on the piston:

You must install it yourself. Make sure it is installed the right way around, with the narrow side closest to the opening of the cylinder:

Lubricate the piston and the seal well with brake fluid to make sure the seal does not rip during installation.
