Brake pedal bottoms out, no pressure

Postby byrontheboss » Wed Jul 07, 2010 6:32 pm

Hi folks, I am new to this board.
I recently inherited a 1995 goldwing that has been garage kept for the past several years, but not ridden much.
The brake pedal bottoms out, the oil level is full and the fluid clear, but there is no pressure building when I pump it.
In an attempt to bleed the brakes, I have tried to remove the right front brake cover over the front disc brake. I have removed the two bolts on the bottom, but the top of the cover is still firmly in place. I cant find any kind of bolt or clip that is holding it in place. I am afriad of breaking it if I put too much muscle into it.

So bottom line, 2 questions.
Has anyone seen the foot brake problem before and if so, what was the cause?
How do you remove the front disc brake cover without breaking it?

Would love to hear from folks who have some knowledge.

Well, to start with your first question, yes, that happens when the fluid needs to be removed and replaced. You will have to do the front LEFT brake and the rear brake. They are both controlled off of the foot brake pedal.

The front RIGHT brake is controlled by the hand brake lever.

Your second question, how to remove the disk cover. You need to remove part of the front fender first.
I have included some pictures out of the service manual to help you. You really need a service manual to do any work on the Goldwing.
