Brake Pads What kind???

Postby guitarzan » Fri Aug 28, 2015 6:24 pm

Hi,
I'm putting brake pads on for the first time and I'm narrowing down so far to two kinds. 1. EBC Organic Brake Pads or 2. EBC Sintered Double-H Brake Pads.

Can I get some feedback on what may be the best ones to purchase? Thank you

Frank & Jay

I think will end up being like an oil or tire post. lost of different thoughts. I use OEM Honda pads. I tried EBC several years back and they made a lot of noise when I applied the brakes. But they probably have improved a lot since then.

Frank,

Check this link out.

I normally run sintered pads in my bikes - but really have no preference - they all work efficiently - depends on what you want to do - change pads more regularly or depends on your overall riding conditions, riding style etc, or even to an extent cost will come into it.

Cheers

Charlie

I put some EBC HH pads on the back of my 1500 in May, to replace some very worn organic pads. I was, and am really happy with the performance of them. The braking was noticeably improved, much more solid. Hard to say if it was just due to being new pads, or the HH pads. First pair I've put on since owning the bike. But, no negative comments about them.

Be sure you get the right ones. I had a heck of a time finding them locally, and was actually sold the wrong pads by one Honda dealer. Had to correct the second dealer to get the right ones.
Sintered Pads for GL1500:
The rears are EBC FA69/3HH
The fronts are EBC FA124/2HH
Organic Pads for GL1500:
The rears are EBC FA69/3
The fronts are EBC FA124/2

I've tried quite a few different pads on both Goldwings, including EBC. My problem with the EBC is that they are very soft, make a LOT of mess, and wear down quickly.

Out of all the pads I've tried, the best, least noisy, least dirty and longest lasting pads are the OEM Honda pads, so that's what I now put on my bikes.

Thank you for the straight advise. That's what I'll get. It was nice getting just the straight advise without someone trying to be a comedian with some off the wall comments. Sometimes it not easy asking a question that you know for experienced riders probably sounds dumb but not for us new guys. Most of the guys here are straight up nice guys and like being helpful. I really appreciate that.

Thank you
Frank

Have to agree with the boss here, The OEM are more expensive but in my experience last about twice as long as the after market.
