#12 hose(s)????

Postby n5926g » Mon Aug 31, 2015 1:48 pm

Afternoon guys, since I got the 1500 running this past weekend,I started to hook up all those hoses..Most are color coded, and pretty much a no-brainer..I do however have 2 #12 hoses....One go,s to the fuel shut off,so its obviously a vacuum port to the intake...I have a second #12 which has nowhere(that I can find) to go...at present its plugged off...any suggestions? I did look at the routing diagram in my manual, and see only 1 #12......Idea,s?

The only #12 I can think of without looking at the diag is that vac to the petcock. I think the Cali models teed off of that to the evap stuff. Not sure the number on those, though. Where is the other #12 located? By the petcock?

Both #12,s are on the same side, and agree,d one goes to the fuel control valve, but the other is somewhat longer, and has a small clamp on it...In looking at the end of that hose I see some "green crud" that suggests its been dangling open for awhile...This is perplexing,as with that open,it is a vacuum leak, and the engine isnt happy with it open.Presently I have it plugged off,and after choking, and a short warm up,she idles fine....Vacuum schematic shows only 1 #12.....

Update.....Called a local friend that owns a Cycle shop here in Memphis, and I asked him about the two #12 hoses....He confirmed one go,s to the fuel shut off valve, and the other go,s to a "Decel enrichment valve" supposedly on the carb assy....His advice(since the carbs are installed) is to "plug it off, aint worth he headache".....anyone out there wanna comment?
He has been in the business since High school, and that makes it about 38 or so years......

The "deceleration enrichment" on a 1500 would be the PAIR or shot air systems, I believe. Page 4-47 and 4-55 if you want to investigate further. I saw no #12 on that system, though. Where's ct1500 when ya need him?!

Indeed...NO #12...I even looked at my old carb setup, and found no ports that I missed...Probably should just do what my buddy said and plug it off,but would rather do it right will keep lookin..in the mean time,if anyone does find where its supposed to go PLEASE let me know...Thanks! Cheers!

Ok...Im a dummy...There is indeed only 1 #12 tube...Replaced alot of fuel tank/line stuff,and "introduced" a second #12...The original is where it should be now...I have a #1 that needs a home now...AICV SOLENOID...should be easy to find...

Im thinkin you are correct...BUT I took many pics during the teardown, and one of that specific area, the hose is connected, and I didnt disconnect it...it appears to go towards the back of the bike a short bit,and then disappears into what looks like a "hard line" headed out to the LH side....Im hoping I can get my borescope and find that end...If I can see it,I can likely get to it without pulling the carbs....gonna try to post a pic....

Update...THAT #1 is in tact, and go,s to its control valve as it should...I have a second(confirmed by the FSM) #1 that comes directly off the center LH cylinder intake port...That's the one that needs a home....the FSM show,s it,but very vague as to where it attaches....anyone have a clue here?...Just gotta say Im happy the carbs don't have to come back off.....

Pull your #2 plug wire off and out of the way and you'll see a double brass looking tee directly behind there. That'd be it.

Speaking of pulling carbs, I lost all idle fuel to my left bank today, grrrr

Looked..and that's not the one...THIS "port" is off the vertical nipple...the one you are referring to is the horizontal one,and it is attached...BOTH ports are on that intake tube..... :o

Why didn't you say that to begin with??????!!!!!!!????

Lol, just messing. To be honest, I don't know. My '96 only has that one off the #4 intake. I don't know what to tell ya except that I take lots of pics when disassembling stuff nowadays. ;)
