Panel removal o n GL1500

Postby par4ugolf » Thu Jul 30, 2009 7:49 pm

I have a 1999 Goldwing that had at one time a trike attachment on it. When they traded it in for a new GL1800 they removed the trike kit but left 2 rods on the bike. I can probably easily remove these rods if I can figure out how to get the Chrome panel that is behind the passenger footrests off. That is where these rods are attcahed on each side. I am able to get all theother panels off easily ,but can't figure out how to remove this one. It appears as if it snaps off somehow, but I don't want to force it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I probably would keep them on if I knew what trike kit they went too. Maybe someone could help me with this also.

It sounds like you are talking about the one that runs under the footrest. If thats the one take the 2 bolts out of the footrest and it will come off and the chrome piece with it and it bolts to the foot rest from the other side.

I am talking about the chrome piece that is directly next to the foot rest not below it. it appears to be seperate from the footrest as it seems to fit over the rear crash bar. If the footest needs to be removed to get this off then I guess I need to find the bolts that hold it on. How do I get to these bolts. I have tried to see them but there is a rubbber baffle type where the bolts probably are.

Thanks for your input. Yes this Goldwing is all new to me.

There's a pin that runs through the foot peg with a E clip on the end that you have to pull out to get to the bolts. I forgot to mention that part. I don't have my 1500 still or I would have looked first to refresh my memory. Hope this helps and not to late.
