Those rubber dampers are needed to make your alternator turn. You need 4 sets and they go inside of the engine casing and you need to align the splines on the alternator to fit in between these dampers. I used a how to do (I think on this site) when I had to replace mine. they have probably not caused any damage to anything. perhaps you should have your alternator checked out while it is out just in case it is starting to loose a bearing. :D :D

Okay thanks alot, I have 120,000 miles on my bike and I replaced the alternator and battery one year ago with the compu fire set, I never replaced the rubbers, being the novice I am, I used this site as well. So I am familiar with how to install them, I just didn;t know what they did. Thanks alot

You are welcome, I also had them start failing around the 120,000 mark. but I was told by my parts guy when my alternator went out that I should replace these before putting the alternator back on. once I touched them they looked like the same as what you showed in your picture. With 120,000 you will begin to have to start changing worn out parts except for the engine. have fun and this site will get you thru the adventure. ride often and ride safe. :D :D

Here's how to replace them. Only one problem; they are almost totally unobtainable.

I found 3 here:

2 here:

I have no idea where you will find the other 7 you will need.

You most likely didn't harm anything if it's just been a fairly short while.

Order your set of alternator dampeners and a new o-ring for it, (84.5 x 4 mm /part # 91320-MN5-003) in case you've nicked it.
While waiting for those to arrive, take your alternator to an alternator shop to get it checked over before you reinstall it.
I have no faith anymore in Compufire Alternators, as I have gone through 2 of them in the last 240,000 km!

My bad! I didn't check the model or the pictures carefully enough. Thought it was a 1000, not a 1500.
