discovering things on a new 1500

Postby LDodge » Sun Sep 20, 2015 5:34 pm

Hi all --
I just got a '95 Wing two weeks ago and absolutely LOVE it. One thing I discovered is two little spring loaded "doors" on the side bottom panels near the front of the bike (one on each side). They are semi triangular and always "open", I pushed them in and they both just spring out again.
thanks
L.Dodge

If you mean this door;
Lower Foot Warmer Vent
Lower Foot Warmer Vent

It is the Foot Warmer Vent. It is operated by turning the knob on the right side of the fairing;
Control Knob
Control Knob

Sounds like you have an SE model.

Awesome, I thought I heard somewhere that it was foot warmer, though I wasn't sure. I saw the knob but thought it was for the vents on the lower dash. Thanks for getting back so quickly and yes I do have an SE :D

I think the vents were a better idea on paper than in practice. I have never noticed them providing much heat. When I first got my 1500 the lower vents were blocked open by my foot board mounts, so they stayed open for that riding year. Over the winter I removed the foot boards and closed the vents. They have been closed all this year. I have not noticed any sort of change in my foot temp and comfort.

Wish I had them in Wisconsin, that would have been a good test, but here in Tn I don't think it will be that big of a deal ;)

I don't have them on my 1500 Interstate, but like some of the others, I probably wouldn't use them here in Texas.

I use them here in New England and yes, I notice the difference. I wear lighter footwear to avoid jungle rot and they sure come in handy. In colder weather (below 45) when I have the riding boots with thick cotton socks on, not so much.
