Motorcycle GPS and GL1500 mount

Postby pierrax02 » Mon Sep 21, 2015 1:39 pm

Hello,
I plan to do my first solo trip this month (over 2000 miles) and I would like to buy a GPS for my Goldwing 1500.
What could be the best combination of GPS and mounting system. I'd like something watherproof and easy to install (no drilling).
Thank you!

You're probably looking then at something like a Garmin Zumo, which is waterproof and intended for motorcycles, and perhaps a RAM mount kit that will affix it to your bike.

It's exactly what I wanted (and near half the price!) but I'm from Canada and they do not ship here.
I'll try to find something near me.

Thanks!

You should be able to find something local. In Calgary one of the best shops is http://www.gpscentral.ca. They ship throughout Canada.

If you use the Zumo mount which has the power wiring and audio outs built in you can also use the device sold on this site which will patch the GPS into the intercom system so you can hear the GPS audio through your headset.

I have the Zumo, not cheap, but it works great.

I'm leaving in two days so I'll never get it in time. I'll go the old good way, books and maps.
It's one of my last trip this season, it's getting gold here in Québec (2 celcus in the morning). I'll try to start the next one with a new gps!

Thank you!

I've started using the Nokia HERE app on my Android cell phone.
You can set it to use the maps offline (no data charge and works where there is not signal) and runs off the GPS.
Still has turn-by-turn instructions and search capability.
WingAdmin did a review of it here
