Passenger Audio Controller

Postby punch7 » Thu Oct 08, 2015 4:27 pm

I was advised by one of my vendors that the aftermarket passenger audio controller they sell cannot be used with the J&M Elite headset cords. The unit they show on-line straps to the passenger grab rail with a velco strap. Who else has the Elite headset cords and what aftermarket audio controller do you use that works and, where did you get it?

Thanks!

There are a few different set up where the cord connects to the helmet but the connector to the bike is the same 5 pin
My friend has one on his 1800 and it works. The only end that is different is the J&M handlebar mounted CB unit. It takes a 6 pin connector that hooks up to the CB unit, all Gold wings have a 5 pin connector on the motorcycle.

The only possible reason it will not work is that if you use the lower cord with the dust cover, HC-ZB, as it will not go into the female end far enough to make contact. Just order the cord without the cover, HC-ZC, and it will be fine.

Thanks for your reply, Wayne.

Both our lower cords are marked ZM on the gray band, but neither cord has a dust cover 'attached'. The dust covers on our 1500SE are on the cords that come directly from the bike at both the rider and passenger locations. Will our ZM cords work? I haven't ordered the controller yet but need to be sure about the cords before I do.

When I say dust cover I am referring to the bike end of this cord "ZB" and this cord sometimes will not work with some of the passenger controllers. http://www.sierra-mc.com/proddetail.asp?prod=JM-HC-ZB
This is the same cord without the dust cover

Roger that, Wayne!

Thinking back a decade or so, I recall having to trim the ring on the bride's passenger lower cord just to make it stay connected to the 1990 passenger audio outlet cord because it wouldn't fully seat. I didn't realize it was also keeping the pins from making full contact. After rummaging around in the electronic components drawer this a.m., I came up with a CZ lower cord off the '98 'Wing that should work.

Thanks for your knowledge and assistance!
