replacing shifter seal? ???

Postby golden highway » Sat Oct 17, 2015 11:38 am

I am trying to remove the shifter to replace the seal but when I try to slide it off the shaft it hits the frame. There doesn't seem to be enough romm between the shafts and frame to remove it. Probably another 1/8 of and inch and it would clear. What am I doing wron?

When I did mine I had to remove the motor mount bolt and carefully used a crowbar to give me the clearance that I needed. I then used a bench grinder to modify the shifter lever so it could be removed in the future without having to remove the mounting bolt.

I removed the motor mounting bolt, bent my pry bar didn't come close to getting it off. The seal is damp so I would like to get it replaced but I am not sure how I am going to get the shifter off.

I saw your other post saying that you got it all done.
I did mine last week and ran into the same situation.
Really no rhyme or reason why some come off with no issues and others you almost have to take the whole frame apart.

Did yours have a bump out area at the top? Looked like extra material when casted

I wish that I could remember.
After all the frustration of getting it off and reading others accounts, I headed straight for the grinder to "fix" it.
I just kept grinding, checking to make sure it was flat and checking to see if it would fit until it did.
