Fuel,temp gauge,& dash,baggage &cornering lights go out

Preview: Fuel,temp gauge,& dash,baggage &cornering lights go out
Hi fellow bikers,
I Started up my 1995 gl1500 asp. And the baggage ,cornering ,dash lights and fuel and temp gauges just flickered and quit working. I knew my brake modulator was not working right, so I figured it was part of the problem. Well the next time I started it , the lights and gauges worked fine. I haven't done anything but start it for the last few months since I had an auto accident (not bike accident) then broke my heel 3 weeks later. Lucky hugh?
This eve I started it again ,I noticed the reverse light flashed for a sec or two then gauges , baggage dash and cornering lights (Cornering lights on all the time) all just quit. Is there a relay for this circuit.? Is this more than one circuit? Is cornering lights for this year or model supposed to be on always ?
Also after restarting again I tapped the rear brake a few times and the lights came back on. I restarted it again, lights & gauges were still out . So tapping the brakes must ave been a fluke because the brake light wobble worked ,but ,still no guages or lights. The headlights ,signals ,flashers and trunk and rear light bar works. I noticed The rear light bar worked with the trunk brake light. I don't know what is the norm since I didn't install or work on any wiring systems yet .I did install a 90amp alternator which went ok. I really like to know what I'm doing before I tackle anything if at all possible. But then too I really would like to be riding. AND NOW I RRRRRRReally would like to be ABLE to ride.
Thanks in advance if anyone can shed a lil light on my problem.
When I return from the Dr. Today I'm going to check it out a lil more if it doesn't rain. Crutches and wet grassy surfaces don't mix....believe me ;)
If it's not asking too much, I would appreciate and welcome your prayers for my injury recovery .My bike would appreciate your prayers too!
Thx again,
GTX

You are likely looking at a problem with the well known #3 relay (top right in box).

Check the wiring sockets under relay for looseness/signs of overheating after giving the relay a wiggle test to see if you can recreate the problem. Then swap with another relay to see if problem goes away.
This is what I do
Local and need repair help with your 1500, Valkyrie or ST please PM

And always, ALWAYS, put some dielectric grease in every connection you open up to keep moisture from causing corrosion in the connectors. When I check a plug I unplug every connector in the area and add a little grease to any that are dry. Just a preventative measure.

Those who say it can't be done should try not to interrupt those who are doing it.

Thanks fellas,
I will check the relays out after church tomorrow. We got that bad weather from Texas this morning and it was really bad here for a spell. Are those relays interchangeable for testing ?
Thanks again

Yes, the relays are interchangeable (good thing, 'cause there's a bunch of 'em). You'll have to loosen (but not likely remove) the left saddlebag to access #3 relay.

BTW, if it's bad, you'll need to replace it, as there's no practical way to repair them. It can be QUITE challenging to find replacements, so I'd recommend WingAdmin (here on GWDocs) who carries a supply of the genuine article, at an amazingly low price. Go here -

http://goldwingdocs.com/Store/Goldwing- ... MS-H30.asp

I ordered several (I figure if one goes, and they're all the same age, others can't be far behind, right?), and WA had them in the mail to me the same day. This is, by far, one of the best online deals I've done in a long time! I've replaced my faulty #3, and now carry the other two as spares.

I read this thread Fri afternoon right after it was posted then rode to Autozone to return a loaner tool and damn if I didn't have same problem on the way home. Grrrrr  Bike's been sitting with the cover on and I haven't had a chance to get to it because of the same rain

I saw the relays mentioned on the gwdocs and wanted to get a few . Now that I'm almost jobless and have had a problem , I'm going to hsve to get a 2 or 3. When u do something , do it right the 1st time ! ( I can still hear my dad's voice after the slap of the strap on my behind or whatever part of my body it hit). Ha!
It just slacked off rain so I still haven't cked it out, so I'll wait till the sun comes out tomorrow and get a lil help. I might have a lil wind damage. Thx agin , going visit the relay section now to see what I need .

They are the same relay 'Omron G8MS-H30', just listed two times in the newsletter.

Those who say it can't be done should try not to interrupt those who are doing it.

There are two model numbers, 38370-MN5-003 and 38380-MN5-003 - and both refer to the same relay, which is the one we have here.

Just got a chance to look at mine and it was the #8 tail/meter/position fuse blown. I found a pinched wire for the saddlebag lights.

Me too, much cheaper than replacing a relay but I'm not quite up and running yet. After having the carbs off twice in the last week I've got to do it one more time tomorrow when my new carb isolators arrive. Found a bad air leak

I just ordered 3 relays. I messed up and ordered 1 qty and pressed pay now before I realized I had not changed the qty to 3. Hope they ship all three together.
I wanna thank you guys and the forum once again for the help. I have a lot to do on this 1500 se asp anniversary edition. I bought parts for my front end rebuild including progressive springs and the fork seal tool$$$$$$$$. Plan on getting the shifter shaft stabilizer upgrade and changing the timing belts. But now that I'm sorta disabled I can only look at it and buy a few of the ''know I'm gonna need parts" while I have a job. Aaaaaaand if I finally get a shop of some sorts I can work all night on the bike like I used to do on my 750 Honda drag bike (1000 cc Mallory magneto and hi output vertex coil 6" MH wrinkle Racing slick w/ 5 foot home made wheelie bars etc. low 10 sec 1/4 mile passes rode to work every day and raced on weekends). Maybe the wife might enjoy that,....getting me out of the house!
Darn I miss those days!!
I hope the two 1000 , &1200 7 volt regulators will still be available , I want to surprise my 79 yr old riding buddy . He doesn't know it yet ,but when they fail I'll have a fix for him thanks to this forum.
Thanks again.
GTX.

Hi there,

I caught both orders going to the same address, so I put them all together into one and refunded your shipping for the second order.

And no plans to discontinue the 7 volt regulators - they seem to be something that people will need for as long as these bikes are around.
