1988 Goldwing 1500 is not firing on left side

Postby DMaurice » Sun Nov 15, 2015 9:18 pm

Just bought a used 1988 Honda Goldwing 1500 that is not firing on left side. It sat up for a year and a half without being started. I have run new gas through it and rotated the spark plugs but this has not helped. Any opinions or suggestions as to what may be causing this and what needs to be done in order to fix it?

each coil fires a plug on each side I have seen mice chew the wires on one side but more likely it is the carb on that side . check compression on all 3 to rule out belt I have seen them eat them to

Most likely a stuck float on the left bank carb. I have had the same problem after a couple of months layup. On the left bank, smell the exhaust when running. If no smell, no gas.

Run it full choke on the centerstand for a while, also, run some strong carb cleaner through it for a couple of days. It should come around, if you have some patience.

By "not firing" do you mean that the cylinders on that side are not operating, or that there is no spark on any of the left side cylinders?

If there's spark, then the fuel system is the culprit. If there isn't, then it's electrical in nature. We need to know more to diagnose the problem...
