Will not run long or crank

Postby NIPPON » Sat Nov 21, 2015 7:53 pm

GL1500A, will not run long or crank . Fuel pump works, new plugs. Cannot start on choke, battery is new. When running the carburetors are starving, not smooth or run long. May have to trailer 27 miles to dealership.

So what do you want to know ?

I suppose that your are wanting to know how to fix this or maybe get some advice, but if you want that information to be moderately helpful, you probably need to take some time and give some further information on what you would need from the forum.

I suppose a bit of history - has the bike been sitting - any background maintenance would help?
You say it won't run or crank - but then say the carbs are starving?
Have you checked - for fresh fuel, clogged fuel filter, plenty of spark, good plugs, good leads, - maybe some aerostart or ether down the carb throats or in the air intake.

sounds like a carb service ? tuneup -

try some seafoam ?

I added seafood to a clean tank of fuel, and it ran for 15 seconds and shut down. It started this summer, barely running. Fuel pump was changed as illustrated on Berry Fuel Pump section. Still the same. Will not run long on choke, and hard to start. It has set since September.

Before you start pulling the carbs..have you done a file pump flow test..? before and after the filter? checked for consistent spark at the plugs..

Yes, a fuel pump flow test is the first thing I'd do. Have you also checked/changed the fuel filter? That's a simple, very low-cost potential fix.

I've read everything here a couple times. I've tried to recall the times I've had a fuel starvation problem which "might" be similar to what you're experiencing. I can't come up with anything that hasn't already been said.
But keep posting what you do and the results. Someone will see it and have that "ah ha" moment.
Good Luck!

Has everybody forgotten to check or bypass the fuel petcock valve?
