93 GL1500 speedo issue

So, having a great day, cruising on my Wing coming home from class, when all of a sudden the speedo quit. Took it off, disconnected the cable also and checked both. I used a small allen to check the speedo, it works, used a small flathead to spin the cable, the end spun fine, spun the front wheel to check the small tab from the gear, yup, you guessed it, no go. Looks like I need to change the gear out. Going to look at the how-to for removing the front wheel and tackle it tomorrow.

Removing front wheel isnt bad. Just be careful if you use a jack under front of motor, the oil filter is NOT a good place to lift.

I've got a motorcycle jack, so that's not an issue. Just need to pick up a 22mm socket, don't have one that big. I do have a torque wrench, so I'll be able to get it back on right.

When changing out the gear, be sure to grease it up well. It will help hold it in place while reassembling and hopefully help the plastic gear from wearing out quickly.

That's what I figured. Made sure to get plenty so I can get the bearing while I got the wheel off.

There is a tab on the fork and one on the speedo gear housing, make sure the housing tab is behind (towards engine) the fork tab when re-installing the wheel.
