97SE Audio why wouldn't this work..,

Postby mikeblakeney » Wed Dec 16, 2015 8:03 pm

Trying to get iPhone audio to my headset for turn by turn without having to switch to tape input and cancelling my FM radio. (Without buying an expensive box)
If I get a stereo mini 3.5 mm to 5 pin audio adapter cable.
Then plug that into my phone and the passenger headset,
Could I hear the phone that way?
Without having to turn off the radio?
I'm sure I'm not the first one to ponder this, so any thoughts or experience appreciated.

That's cool, haven't seen that before. I will need to order one. I am using the cassette tape adapter now, this will be a great addition for music and GPS.

If using for audio out into a headset you will more than likely need a small amp as you will not have enough output to drive the headset speakers

Noted thanks.
Nice thing about the Wing, there's plenty of coveted real estate for anything you may need

Correct. An iPhone does not have the power to drive the headset speakers, particularly if you are also listening to the radio - the turn-by-turn instructions will be so quiet, you won't hear them.

That's why the GPS Input was created. It injects the phone (or GPS, or radar detector, or whatever) audio into the intercom circuit, where it is amplified by the intercom amplifier so that it is loud enough for you to hear. As an added bonus, the intercom muting cuts out the radio sound as long as the phone (or GPS or whatever) is talking, to make sure you don't miss the instructions.
