Chrome side marker light trim

Postby dovesdrummer » Tue Jan 19, 2016 9:16 pm

Greetings from Sanger, Texas. I'm a newbie and have gathered a wealth of info from you guys. Thanks for that !!! Posting for the first time to see if anyone can help me find the same type of chrome side marker light trim that is shown on the Admin's pearl white bike that he uses to illustrate GL1500 timing belts, cruise/sub filters, etc. My '97 currently has the black plastic trim that came stock on the bike. I've done exhaustive searches on eBay, Show Chrome, etc. Can't seem to find any just like it. I've seen the Kuryakyn ones, but they aren't exactly what I'm wanting. I like the two piece design that he has. It doesn't cover the marker light. Chime in if you can help. Thanks in advance

First, welcome to the forum.
You're right, I hadn't noticed that it was different.
It isn't the one-piece that goes all the way across like the Kuryakyn or Show Chrome.

Maybe its AddOn?

I know what you mean about the Kuryakyn. I dont like how it blocks out the light either but before mine didn't light up at all and was just a reflector. So I guess I'm sort of ahead of the game :D The Kuryakyn one looks pretty nice.

I suppose WingAdmin could best answer your question, but I suspect it is this accessory, with the 'offending grill' area cut away.

BTW, I have the Kuryakyn version on mine, and don't find the level of diminished light output to be an issue, at all. And, that's with the stock 194 bulb fixtures added to those reflectors. I have LEDs just about everywhere else, but have no problem with the light level in the side markers, so never bothered to convert to LEDs. And the wattage/amperage from a 194 is not a big enough issue to require LEDs.

Thanks for your reply. I didn't think of the obvious being that he may have cut away the "offending material " Sometimes the answer is right there and I just don't get it.

Actually may have had my question answered. Looks as though it is the Kuryakyn trim with the grill area removed. Thanks

That's exactly what it is. I didn't like that grill covering the (already meager) light output of that light, so I cut it out, then trimmed and smoothed the ends of the remaining pieces. I also painted the cut ends with some chrome paint to prevent them from rusting.

You have to be careful to leave the pieces long enough to keep them covering the edge of the light, so that they hold it in firmly.

Very good to know. I ordered this set the other day and don't like the grill either. I'll have to do the same.
At least I feel more comfortable cutting on something like this than drilling or cutting bike plastics. :D
