LED BULBS WORK/DO NOT WORK

Postby tcryder » Sun Feb 07, 2016 12:44 pm

I am in the process of using my lower turning lights as running lights. In earlier articles that I posted I was told that my light socket was bad as the reason my left side not working. The factory bulbs work on either side. LED BULBS work on left or right side using the right side light bulb socket. The new light socket part number 33252-MT8-771 came with male end. I had to cut the male end off and use the female end from old light bulb socket. I wired it green to green and blue to red/gold stripe. New light socket works using factory light bulbs on either side. The new light socket will not work using LED BULBS in it. Did I wire it wrong?

I am so confused, that it must be something really simple that I am not seeing. tcryder

Hmm, Lets check voltage before the connectors and after the connectors with a test light or a voltmeter and go from there. Do you know for sure that you have a good connection in the socket? Do you have springs or tangs in the socket? I have seen bulbs with not enough solder and not make a good connection. Hope this helps, let us know what you find out.

I know i have voltage because my light socket from the right side works on the left side with LED bulb and the right side. My new light socket works with factory bulb in it but not with a LED bulb so maybe it is a contact problem with the LED contact.

When I change out the bulbs to led in the speedometer, you had to put in the bulbs in one direction only as in a series circuit to make them light, these were spade like bulbs. Worth a shot if those are spade like bulbs. I am sure there is a electrical engineer on site some where with the right answer for you. Keep us posted.

There's one simple way to find out: Undo the wires and reverse them. If the LED works once you've done that, then you know that was the issue.

The bottom line is that the LED bulbs do not work either side using the new light socket that I had to wire the female end on. The LED bulbs work on both sides using the old light socket from the right of side of bike. The new light socket works either side using bulbs that the bike came with. That is the problem. Both LED BULBS are good! Work in the old light socket from the right side on either side of the bike.

Does anybody there have a used light socket that I could buy? I am ready to just remove the lower lights and sell the LED bulbs I just bought for $25.00 each. I appreciate everyone trying to help solve this.

The last picture is of the plug, connector, relay or whatever, that the black wire came out of the pin, so and that's when I found out that the lights stay on all the time, by accident. I cut the other side black wire. I can swap this plug and it doesn't make a differents on the LED bulbs working or not. The LED BULBS only work EITHER side using the right side light socket. tcryder.

Some-LED bulbs are current specific they will only work with the positive on positive and negative on negative... The original bulbs will work with power in either direction thus explaining your problem. Switch the wires you made the crimp connections on and the LED should work fine...

Thank you all for your input. I big "thank you" to member "pbourgoin". I rewired the new socket and it worked like you said. The next problem I had was trying to mount the new light socket into the glass light housing. It would not fit, had to cut the wire and put into the old light socket. What a bunch of ****. Buying a part and it has to be modified to work. Thank you all.
