trunk wont unlatch

trunk wont unlatch

I replace the center trunk light and the trunk latch doesn't work now. any suggestions on how to get open?

There are several posts on this..requires sticking a hooked rod up through the latch keys grabbing the bar and pulling..
HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83
NOW INTO 1500'S..RIDING A 1998 SE

I used the coat hanger method and it didn't work. I had the latch bar above the mechanism from a bad installation. The coat hanger did pull the latch enough to force the latch hooks with a screwdriver and force the bottom of the trunk edge up. IMPOSSIBLE beat down by force and luck. My release bar was above the actuator lever. no broken parts. I"m super happy :D .

Glad to hear you got it open. If the latch bar won't pull down because it was assembled incorrectly and the bar is on top of the mechanism like you describe, then have an assistant pull the latch release at the same time as you pull the release bar down. This can help by getting the release mechanism down out of the way.

Thanks for the hook info and photo. When I reassembled I did the check to make sure the latch worked. The first attempt didn't. Thanks again. I also did the zip tie for sh*& and giggles.
