Wiring for a trailer

Postby toanogreen » Wed Feb 24, 2016 9:14 pm

I just bought a trailer. I need to wire my bike. I'm sure it's here somewhere.
Can someone send me a link?

Thanks

I was going to do it myself, but Cyclemax has an isolating harness for $26, which was less than I could buy the parts myself to do it. It's a plug-and-play unit, it plugs into the existing wiring harness and just works. It has relays, so it isolates your trailer wiring from your bike wiring, to protect your bike's light wiring harnesses.

Harness works great. Just follow the directions and install whatever plug you need to hook up to your trailer. Has been installed on my bike for several years now with absolutely no issues.

I am gonna use that same harness, with one addition, a 6th wire. I am adding a switched HOT wire so I can add a piggy lighter/ dual USB plug in the trunk for charging tablets , cameras, or ______ while going down the highway .

I did this as well. I have a switched +12V wire running into my trailer, so it can charge stuff (including the small 12V gelcell battery in the trailer) while riding.

I had not thought about a gel-cell, is it a 12v 25ah , larger, smaller ? Inquiring minds want to know !

Figured you would ask me that!

I don't remember. I don't think it's as big as 25 AH. More like 12 AH. It's used primarily to power LED lighting in the trailer, and can run a phone charger as well, to charge phones overnight. I've also got a 12V 15A power supply in there that can be plugged into 110VAC if the campsite happens to have it, that takes over in place of the battery.
