Back off brake module

Postby JollyGreenGiant » Sun Feb 28, 2016 4:32 pm

Read a great thread on how to wire brake module. Guess I didn't do it right. Doesn't mention red wire. I cut green/red to brake lights and ran red off one side and red/white off other. Not working. '95 GL1500 SE

The green/red wire is the correct wire to cut. The red wire on the BackOff module is the input - so it should be connected to the Green/red wire that is coming from the bike. The red/white (or white/red, depending on which mode you're using) connects to the Green/red wire that is going to the brake lights. If you got it backwards, it won't work.

Glad I saw this. So how would I wire it if all I want is for it to flash my spoiler light ?
BTW the spoiler light on my bike is BRAKE light only now. . . . I think I want it to constant flash, what are your thoughts on that ?
Reputation is what other people know about you. Honor is what you know about yourself. Our stress about it happens when the two aren't the same. Be true to yourself and to hell with what everyone else thinks!

I wired mine sort of this way:

To make just the spoiler flash, you need to find the spoiler brake control module. It is on the left side, behind the left saddlebag, mounted to the frame, just behind the starter relay regulator:

Spoiler Brake Control Module
Spoiler Brake Control Module

Cut the green/yellow wire going to this module and insert your flasher there. Green/yellow from the bike is the source, Green/yellow going to the module is the flashed brake light.

I understand the wiring part. Finding the green/red is my issue. Left or right side connector? Is it the huge connector in the plastic case? Thanks :)

You need to remove the left side saddlebag. Look for the metal starter regulator (the thing with the fins on it), the spoiler light controller will be the black plastic box right behind it. I removed mine, unplugged it, then cut into and spliced the green/red wire on its pigtail.

I so much appreciate the wealth of info on this site, and the generous folks who share their knowledge with others in need. I am however very frustrated now. With my 95 SE torn half apart, I hoped for the simple task of wiring in that darn backoff brake module. I'm seeing so many different instructions including location, wire colors, and procedure. I'm actually somewhat well educated in this area and should be able to accomplish this task. I'm so baffled now though on how to do this I think I will just sulk my way through putting my bike back together so hopefully I can ride tomorrow. Cheers to wingers! :)
