Cruise control issue 0n a 98

Postby RBGERSON » Wed Mar 23, 2016 8:22 am

It sets and kinks in right away..no lag. But as I am driving along on a flat road..it seems to increase and decrease the engine speed. Now I don't see any difference in RPMS, or feel a change in speed of the bike..But I can hear the engine change pitch..very slight. Never had this on my 97??? Note with my hand off the throttle.

Any ideas..the bike had a major service in 2014..sub filters changed, all fluids, and belts the 100,000 dealer maintenance.

Not sure how it can change engine speed without changing RPM and speed of the bike? At the very least, it would be reflected in your tachometer.

It's very small change but I can hear it..but doesn't seem to effect the bike speed/rpms..maybe I am too attuned to the engine sounds..

Any chance it's the change in pitch of the air flowing through the carbs, as they open & close on demand of the cruise control system? On my bike, I can definitely hear it throttle up & down, with changes in grade, even without changing speed or RPM...

Yep could be that..but this is on the flat so I wouldn't expect any change in carb's demand..but maybe there is and that's just the way it is..

anyone else experience the same thing with cruise on and running on a flat even road w/o a wind issue..
