Tyre choice

Post by Lavelle » Wed Mar 30, 2016 8:47 pm

Hi my 91 SE has the Dunlop K177 rear tyre (sorry for the different spelling by the way) I changed the front & rear tyre last year and the shop recommended that I go to the Dunlop Elite 3 on the front and stick with the K177 on the rear which I did and the bike handled fine. I've got about 7 - 8000kms out of the front and booked it in for a new one. The rear tyre still looks fine. The shop recommends I stay with the Elite 3 but I don't know, seems to have worn kind of uneven. Not sure if this is because of the different compounds? Any thoughts /comments would be appreciated.

Dunlop E3's seem like a harder compound tire meant to possibly go more miles. If you like them might as well get another one. Your shop may not have too many other options for you. Locally the shops around here dont carry many different brands and dont really care to find me a tire I ask for. They would most likely recommend a Dunlop E3 as well. But there are a variety of tires brands that would work on your bike. Bridgestone, Metzler, Avon and Shinko. I probably missed a brand or two in there also. :D

Assuming the E3 you have is the newer style with multi compound construction ??? The older E3s were the longest mileage tire I have used on my 93. Nearly 25k miles. I quit using them because of the noise and fast cupping. I use Avon Venoms at present with no complaints. 8000 k (5000 miles) out of a tire would be unacceptable to me.
