Anyone ever lost the ball bearing from the windshielt vent?

Postby Aussie81Interstate » Sun Apr 03, 2016 4:58 pm

As the title states - I installed a vent a week or so ago in my bike, and it has been working fine.

I was going down the driveway this morning and the vent was open - went to close it and it fell back open again. Then I realised the ball bearing had fallen out on the lever opening side.

Has it ever happpened to you or am I just unlucky?

Really silly question now - does anyone know the ball bearing size for a replacement?

thanks :)

If I am correct a BB is the correct size. That is what I used in might when I lost the steel ball, and it worked good.

Unfortunately we do not have bb guns in Australia - but I'll try and look up the size

thanks

1 bird shot from a shotgun shell. Or cut a 1/8" length from a welding rod. Hold with pliers and file ends round.

Back when I had my Tulsa Tall with a vent, I lost mine too, I just left it alone and went one, so yes they do fall out from time to time. :(

Problem sorted,

Went to my local bearing shop on the way home - had already rung to see if they had loose ball bearings - and approximate sizes.

Owner grabbed me three different small sizes - installed the largest one - and it fits nicely - so will go back tomorrow and get a few more (just in case it falls out again)

cost $1
satisfaction 100% (until I lose my ball again)

I find a little grease occasionally keeps vent free moving. Have used lithium and silicon grease, both work great.

I'll be going back this afternoon - and give him back the leftovers ones - and as a process of elimination I'm sure he will sell me a few more of the right size.

My wife has already taken my others so I feel nearly totally emasculated...at least I know I can find some in a zip-lock sandwich bag. :)
