1500 speakers

Postby hap2 » Fri Apr 15, 2016 9:35 am

Does anyone know where the "dial" or "button" is on a 1500SE to move the sound from the rear speakers to the front speakers or vic versa? If u can, please send a picture. Thank you.

Its on the left handlebar control pod if your Wing came from the factory with the rear speakers installed.

You helped me remember where the balance controller is. Maybe it's different on different years & mmodels of Wings, but mine is up by the ignition switch as I hope u can tell on this pic. There is also a 2 way toggle switch there & I dunno what that's for (as it really doesn't make much of a dif when I click it on), but anyway.

That was going to be my other suggestion but you said your Wing is an SE. I'm not sure if Honda included rear speakers on all years of the SE. Your photo looks like the dealer add on/aftermarket unit. As far as the switch goes, you will have to try to trace the wires and see where they go. If you are not the original owner then maybe the previous owner added it.

Ya, sorry. I shuda told u it was an SE.

While I'm at it, do u know how I can change my oil with the bike being on the side stand? I can balance it off the side stand to check the level & let it drain, but can't use the center-stand at all. I'm not even sure where the bolt is to loosen as a friend did it all the time for me. He also did the rear fluid as well loosening another bolt furthur back on the bike.

Do u have an SE?

Thanx

The oil drain bolt is on the right side on the bottom of the engine about under the right foot peg. 14mm wrench. Loosen the bolt, drain the oil into a lower profile pan. Then when oil is drained out from there, sit on the bike and straighten it up to drain the rest of the oil.
It's not what you buy, it's what you build.

Yes, I have a '99 SE.
The oil drain plug is on the right side of the engine so you shouldn't have any trouble draining it. You might want to tilt the bike more upright to drain all the oil out toward the end. The photo is looking toward the back of the bike. You can see the oil filter on the top of the photo.

Thank u so much Ed. Man alive; I sure find this forum to be helpful. I just wish I could help as much as I am being helped. However, if I can't, the will get their reward. What goes around comes around.

I also need to know how to make the brake lights on my trailer work when it's connected to the bike. When it's connected to the car, they work.

I've got about 3 or 4 little issues like this I need help with.

Like putting an alarm in & also, putting some kind of adapter plug my ipod in so I can listen to it thru the speakers, but that's not a real biggy for sure.

Ya, I shud try to find the guy that owned it before & ask him. Maybe if I give DMV the serial #, they can tell me. It was in a bad front end accident & the guy I bought it from replaced everything on the front end..including new Gates timing belts, 2 new tires (E3's, but anyway), & oil.

Before changing your oil, you might want to swing by your local dealer and pickup a new crush washer. :D
I didn't, didn't even think about it, and I should have. I needed one.

I suppose it's supposed to seal the oil in better than just the bolt or a regular washer.
Mine looked like it had never been changed.

I have the same speaker control dial on my 1990 SE. I also have a 3 position switch on the front face of the 'hump' that controls the lower fairing lights. Position 1: High light intensity; Position 2: Off; Position 3: Low light intensity. I suspect the light control switch was add by the previous owner.

CW123: As u can c in the pic I posted above (about 10 mesgs bfore), I also have a 3 way little rocker switch. I thot I'd include it in the pic of the knob that controls front & back speakers on the SE, just so if someone knew what it was (as well as the round knob), they could tell me. And so u did! Thanx!

Dealer I bought my 1500 from hadn't changed anything either. Had to change the oil, final drive oil, coolant, and the damn water pump.

I'm not sure I'd buy anything from a dealer. I worked in parts for a car dealer once so that's why. Exceptions wud b IF the price was better than anywhere else (which usually doesn't happen) or, like the crush washers, they were necessary & I was in a hurry.

Thank is actually why I took the photo I did :)

My 3way switch is wired into the module pictured below. It is located under the right side fairing pocket. My lights don't function as 'cornering lights' like a stock GL1500. They are controlled by the switch and this module. They are either Off, On low, or On high. I have not used them at all since they still have the stock bulbs and I don't want to damage/melt the reflectors or any surrounding plastic. I plan to eventually replace the bulbs with LEDs, likely something like these, http://cyclemax.com/inc/sdetail/50_watt_led_replacement_cornering_light_bulb/83/270155, from CycleMax

BTW, I am glad to see you finally got your bike replaced after your crash last year.

Ya, thanx Craig. My cornering lights are on all the time. I dunno if they're sposed to b like that or not on a SE, but they are & I like it as it's good for visibility. However I dunno if it's got anything to do with that little rocker switch, or not as I haven't moved it. I'd like to find someone to help me with a few things on the bike....just dress it up a bit more & other not essential stuff. But,ya, this bike is nice..1/2 the miles as the old one & better shape overall.

I know that in the earlier years of the 1500 the cornering lights only came on when, well, leaning into corners. I think the bank angle sensor controlled that. I don't know what year it started in, but the later year models had the cornering lights changed to be 'driving lights' which were on all the time. There is a post or two on here that detail how to modify the earlier model cornering lights to be on all the time.

It looks like we are both in Calgary. I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to mechanic work, and almost everything I know about the 1500 I learned here, but I'd be happy to help out if my schedule allows. Family duties, work, and young kids all take there toll on the free time. ;)

I'm actually in Lethbridge here, but if you'd like to help me out fixing up the bike a bit, I'll take a trip up there. I spose I need to list the few things I'd like done with the bike, secure the parts /accessories(if any are needed) & arrange something according to your (& my availability). Needless to say, if I can help you in some way as well.

Cornering lights..I THINK!!! early models came on when turn signals engaged..in 98 changed to on all the time..I think. Never heard of them coming on in a leaning situation. But really don't add much to your field of vision anyway..maybe if switched to HID and adjusted their focus might help but seem to me to be only useful for other drivers to see you better..

My 92 cornering lights come on all the time, but maybe they were modified to be that way. Wudn't mind seeing (up close if not "and in person") the real before & after difference with LED before I take the big plunge to change them. Also, obviously, don't wanna break the lens changing them.
