Torquing Cylinder Head

Postby fnickel » Mon Apr 18, 2016 4:07 pm

Are all the cylinder head bolts accessible for torquing when you take the valve covers off, or are any of them under the camshaft holders and not accessible without removing the cams first? I would like to check the torque values of the head bolts and am wondering if they are all right there under the valve covers without dismantling too much else.

Remove the head bolts and head, replace the head gasket, torque head bolts down, yes.

If your intention is to use a torque wrench on head bolts to see if any are under torqued, don't, even if the head gasket was torqued down yesterday, despite what anyone says. Unless they are prepared to let you loose with a torque wrench on theirs.

If a gasket leak is suspected, replace the gasket.

Don't worry, I've had lots of experience with a torque wrench. The question was; are all the head bolts accessible after taking the valve cover off, without further disassembly of other items such as cam holders?

My apologies then, cannot recall about the bolts, never had to take a head off.
