For my money, wheel, swing arm and steering stem bearings all fall into the same time frame. We ride heavy bikes that exert a lot of different forces on these parts that you or I cannot duplicate when testing. A bearing may feel good to us, but when in use works contrary to what we expect.

Your bike is coming up to 18 years, and has a few miles on it. The kits from All Balls are relatively inexpensive. Here in Canada to replace wheel, swing arm and steering stem bearings on my '85 LTD by myself was approximately $130.00 CDN for parts, and the payback in handling is quite good.

If it is on your mind, I'd recommend doing it.

Just my thoughts.
