I have a 1988 GL1500. Has anybody replaced the dogbone fuse with a blade fuse and holder?

Yes, that is done all the time. A good alternative instead of purchasing and replacing with dogbone style fuse.

I have never had a problem with the dog bone main fuse, but what is the purpose of replacing it with a blade fuse and holder/

The fuse block broke and the dogbone broke as I was taking the pieces out.
