Engine swap

Postby chads920 » Tue May 31, 2016 10:02 pm

I have a 1500 trike and I would like to swap out my engine for a Valkyrie, has anyone had any experience do this? Or has anyone increased the performance of their 1500 through modification such as the use of the Valkyrie heads?

just found a post from Wingman - aug 2015 ref Valkyrie engine vs 1500. In it he states that the 2000 1500 engine is stronger and is less of a pain to keep tuned. Where do I find the year of manufacture on the engine (I have been to Bob's used Motor cycle parts establishment on Boarderline St in the Phoenix AZ area, if you have been there you will understand) Im thinking I would like to rebuild and install one in my 93 Trike. Any comments…would the Valkyrie heads be a good add on

You are aware that the Valk engine does not have reverse right? Might be a pain to have a non-reversing trike.

Yes I read that and the reverse is necessary that is one reason that I am looking at the 2000 (yr) 1500 GL as a suitable replacement engine. Im wondering what I can do to increase its power. The Valkyrie heads are reported to increase HP but they require frequent tweaking, an over boar and different positions , I do't know at this point. The yr 2000 engine is a stronger build and they say closer to what you may get in a comparable yr Valkyrie engine/Trans. minus all the tuning of the Valkyrie.
Full disclosure, I am a grass is greener type and the wife is a what are you up to now, can't you be happy with what you have type.
This all started with a "sputter" when hot. I changed the water temp sensor and will sync the carbs next…
