What is the condition of all the welds on the swing arm?
With the bike on the center stand does the rear wheel have any lateral movement?
That's the only thing I can think of that would cause the caliper to bind up like that. Take any pictures of it?

If the wheel is at an angle, either it was fitted wrong with a spacer missing so that it could shift back out of the rear drive, or the wheel bearings have collapsed. I don't know much about the 1500, but I don't recall any consistent posts about bearing failure.
You're going to have to pull it apart to determine the cause.

Yes you need to pull the rear wheel to inspect. If you aren't sure about this read here from the How To section. . viewtopic.php?f=14&t=11395

I'd check that nut for rear axle had not come off allowing axle bolt to move left and drop from frame. Bolt could have been over torqued or just stressed to point of failure. This will allow tire to ride on an angle and pinch brake.

New bearings and seals are cheap, don't forget to moly grease the drive splines while it's apart 8-)

Maybe ou have found the problem by now ..... maybe not.

The GL1500's rear swing arm is not "loaded" equally on both sides like the GL1200s and older GLs. On a 1500, one side is simply an air assist unit while the other side is a shock within a coil spring. The swing arm was built to withstand the unequal forces when loaded within limits, but now you have a 20 year old GL1500 ridden in whatever weather .... and there are cases of swing arms being weakened by rust from moisture that got inside and some have twisted resulting in tires rubbing swing arms, etc.

Not saying that's your problem, but while you are looking close .... it's worth looking at. GL1500 swing arms aren't that hard to come by once you get the word out .... nearly every 1500 converted to a trike no longer uses the oem swing arm.
