Postby minycop » Tue Jun 07, 2016 3:28 pm

HELLO,HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT AN ODD PROBLEM IM HAVING WITH MY WING, REVERSE DOES NOT ENGAGE, OR IF IT DOES IT DOES NOT SHOW ON CLUSTER MEANING LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON,BIKE HAS BACK UP LIGHTS AND THEY DO COMO ON WHEN I PULL THE REVERSE LEVER UP, BUT IT WONT WORK,SEEMS LIKE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM, BIKE STARTS FINE AND RUNS WITHOUT A PROBLEM, BUT RIGHT NOW RUNNING LIGHTS DO NOT WORK, AND OTHER FRONT GAUGES DONT WORK EITHER.LIKE GAS METER AND TEMPERTURE GAUGE. THIS HAPPENED WHEN I TRIED TO USE THE REVERSE.IT DIDI IT A COUPLE OF TIMES BEFORE AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY, BUT NOW IT LOOKS LIKE THE PROBLEM REMAINS. HELP PLEASE I LIVE IN GUADALAJARA IN MEXICO, AND ALTHOUGH THIS IS A LARGE TOWN, I REALLY DONT TRUST ANYONE WITH MY BABY. IS THIS SOMETHING I CAN CHECK MYSELF? OR MAYBE SOME INFORMATION OR TIPS I CAN TAKE TO MY MOTOR REPAIR SHOP? PLEASE HELP.THANKYOU.

Have you checked any fuses ? If not start by checking Number 8 fuse. This fuse controls a lot of stuff, Instrument gauges, reverse sys. tail lights, side marker lights etc.

thankyou for your reply, all fuses seem fine, what is strange is the fact that all other functions on bike work without a problem, except running lights, lights on handlebar controls, oil, side stand, temp, gas, and the reverse indicator lights dont come on. this is so frustrating.   this means i can only ride during the day..thanks anyway, i ll see if i get more help here.

Ok you've checked the fuses. Now check Relay #3, the 20-amp main/tail relay, and make sure that the relay socket isn’t corroded or heat damaged. If the relay socket looks good swap the #3 main /tail relay with the #5 air pump relay temporarily and see if that corrects the problems.

Good luck
Rick

No problem. Some just loosen saddle bag to get enough room but if you remove you have a lot more room.

found the culprit!!!! you were right my friiend relay number 3 is the one, managed to get the relay box out and extract the relay, pulled the other one out and replaced it....wola!!! poblem fixed!!!!!thankyou very very much.i feel so relieved...by the way. during the taking apart of some of the other parts of the bike,i managed to fix a display problem that i had. the upper part of it did was not working, it turned out theres a small conector right next to stereo deck that got disconnected some how, put it back in its place and now the entire display works. greetings from Chapala Lake. near my town.

You might want to verify that it is only the relay that has an issue, and not the socket connections that have become loose or corroded. That may be determined by re-installing the assumed bad relay and checking again. If the problem persists, probably the relay only. If the socket is weak, you may have temporarily fixed it by the action of removing and reinserting the alternate relay.

You can get the OEM relay from this very website for $12.95 + about the same in shipping (according to the checkout estimate), or about $25 total. I bought 2 just as spares. If you bought 2, I suspect the shipping might stay the same, cutting your per unit price substantially.

I did the same - WingAdmin does a great job of getting these out to folks, fast & cheap! And the ones he sells are the genuine article, not aftermarket compromises. I, too, bought 3 - one to fix the bike, and two as spares. They live in a small nook in my left saddlebag, awaiting the time I need them!
