Windshield Questions

Postby Jonesey » Thu Jun 16, 2016 5:24 pm

It's time to replace my GL1500 windshield and I've been looking at National, F4, etc. My question is this, many of these suppliers offer +2 and +4 versions of their product; however, they go on to say that "normal" windshield height is at nose level.

I'm looking for recommendations from people who have gone from the nose level shield to the "looking thru visor and windshield". Do these extra long shields allow you clear vision as well as wind protection?

BTW - my current shield is 18.5 inches from the top of the fairing. (yep, I'm short)

Thanks for any comments!

First, welcome to the forum.
I think the stock windshield on my 1500 was about 21" before I replaced it and I'm 6'.
I put on a SlipStream Tulsa Tall (4" taller) with the vent.
I really like the extra length and looking through it isn't a problem.
The extra length also provides less wind buffeting for the passenger.
If/when I replace it, I'll probably go with a different manufacturers tall model.
Mine sweeps back further than most and I've bumped my helmet more than once.
It's never too late to have a happy childhood!

I prefer to look through my windshield. I want the extra protection provided by the taller windscreen. I've been hit by too many stones and bigger flying objects that don't deflect up and over the stock height windshields. Whatever manufacturer you chose, make sure you get the vent,or add one. It's well worth the extra cost.

I love my Tulsa Tall too but it's been my experience and from what I've also heard from others there is more buffeting for the passengers... May be for shorter passengers... Engage in threads , like this and read up on several models before buying, give it time and read lots... then decide... I have another Honda with a shorter (factory) fairing and sometimes I miss being able to look over my fairing on my Wing... I like a vented fairing better than not and I like my vent option more than I am concerned about the height. ..
