GL1500 rear wheel dampers

Postby 2manywings » Sat Jun 25, 2016 1:38 pm

Does anyone out there know if the rear wheel dampers for a GL1500 Valkyrie will work on a GL1500 Wing (1996) ? It seems that I remember something about this from a while back. The Valkyrie set is considerably cheaper, and it looks like everything (rubbers and aluminum collars) comes as a complete set. If I'm looking at it right, the price difference is about $35 verses $150+. If this rings a bell with anyone, please let me know. Thanks!

Interesting!
Not sure about the rubber dampers as they don't list an individual part number (just the set), but the aluminum inserts for both are the same part number!

Do you have $33.73 to experiment with? ;) :D

Off hand, I would say a definite, yes.
I ordered this set from Cyclemax a while back, and changed mine last year, along with the rear tire. They were a perfect fit. The part number listed by Cyclemax seems to match the Valk number. Either way, these are $33, and fit my '97.
As to the collars coming with the rubbers, mine did not, and I don't see them included on the Partzilla fische. They are separate items. My collars were fine, but 2 of the rubbers were cracked when I replaced them. The collars are pretty beefy, and I can't imagine them being worn out, unless subjected to undo stress from seriously worn rubbers.

I think that I figured it out! In either application, the aluminum collars need to be ordered separately and by the piece. The rubber dampers are the same, but for whatever reason, they come as a set of five when ordered as a Valkyrie part for $32.75. If you look up the Goldwing application, they are sold individually at $15.38 or $76.90 for five. So what it boils down to is... you can save $44.15 by purchasing them as a Valkyrie item. All of this info was based on parts breakdowns found on Partzilla's website. I ordered everything last night. I'll post the outcome when I receive the goods.

This is a sidecar rig so it does see more stress than normal. I got my order a couple of days ago and installed them yesterday. The Valkyrie dampers part number 06410-MBH-000 ($32.75) comes as a set of five rubber dampers with the aluminum collars molded right in. Everything went together just fine. That's a pretty substantial savings ($32.75 vs. $129.75). So for anyone needing to replace worn dampers/collars on your GL1500 Wing, you might want to consider going this route.

I ordered a set from WingStuff when they had a free shipping event going on and picked my set up yesterday from my US shipping addy.
They do indeed include the aluminium inserts, which like you said is a substantial savings. :geek:
Thanks for alerting us to this! 8-)
