GL1500 Helmet Lock Issue

Post by shomann » Mon Jun 27, 2016 10:01 pm

Gents -

The right side lock is working, the left knob spins like nothing is attached. I've seen pictures of the knob, rod and lock assembly but don't know how to open up the trunk to get access to the lock area.

Thanks for your help!

You should be able to pull the left side knob out and see if the rod is attached,

Thanks Joe! That couldn't be simpler. The rod is gone, and I see you can get them from Cyclemax http://cyclemax.com/inc/sdetail/86/110385.

I've had to replace a couple of them and they are easy to do.
Each end of the rod is flattened. Put the rod into the handle securely, then line the flattened part up with the slot underneath and push down until the handle snaps into place.
If it's not all snapped together, it will vibrate loose and the rod will fall out again and be lost.
It's never too late to have a happy childhood!

I don't know why those stupid things keep falling out.

The last time I replaced those missing rods, I epoxied them into the knobs, so that even if they vibrate loose, they won't drop out and go missing.

The 1800 wing had a problem with them, the rods were to long and would keep coming out. But this is the first I have heard of a 1500 having that problem.

It is common enough a problem that Cyclemax orders replacements from Honda and keeps them in stock so that they can sell the replacements without having to wait for Honda to ship them.
