Blocking coolant line to carb and intake

Post by fnickel » Mon Jul 04, 2016 9:00 pm

I have a stubborn coolant leak that happens every winter during storage, but goes away during regular riding in the summer ('92 1500 SE), 90,000 miles). This summer, it won't go away. I would like to block the coolant line that feeds the carbs and intakes, as it is probably the o-rings that are leaking at the intake manifold. Does anyone know which line needs to be plugged or blocked to accomplish this, and what is the best way of plugging this. I'm guessing it is one of the 2 smaller diameter lines at the front of the engine coming from the water pump. I plan to do the proper repair next winter. I've been told that stopping the coolant to the carbs and intake affects only the emissions during engine warm-up. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

Trying to block one or more of the pump bypass hoses will not have the effect your looking for. Best advice is to locate the leak and repair now. Leaking when cold in previous winters was the warning sign way back when.
