Shiny bit came off

Postby Bugmerc » Thu Jul 28, 2016 1:25 pm

The shiny thing that goes on the front of the side saddle bag came off. The part that would prevent the passenger's heel from scuffing the side bag. Thank god it got wedged between the crash bar and the bag so I still have it. It left behind some black glue dots. How do I reattach it? Should I clean off those black dots first, if so, with what?

Mine came loose too. I used a blade to scrape most of it off then brake cleaner to get the rest. Double sided 3M body molding tape to re-stick. Check the other pieces also.

Thanks!

I can get the body molding tape at an auto parts store?

Mine did the same thing the other day.
Luckily, I came out and saw it laying on the ground instead of going down the road. I figure the heat had something to do with it.
The 3M tape works great, just make sure to clean all the surfaces as Dingdong says and to check the other pieces so they don't fall off.

Those passenger kick plates are actually aftermarket items, and the foam tape they use to fasten them is really poor.

After I had one come off twice, I pitched them and bought new ones ($23 at Cyclemax) and used 3M VHB foam tape instead. Never had a problem again.
