Windshields

Postby macdaddykeith » Tue Aug 02, 2016 9:49 am

I know that someone has at one time asked this question but, here goes. I currently have the tall Tulsa windshield. I had a Tulsa knockoff on it when I got it 4 years ago and it had a vent in it. With the one that I currently have on it, it can get pretty hot at times even with the wind wings. The old one gave me some relief with the vent in it. Has anyone tried other wind screens that keep the wind from buffeting and was able to keep cool? I was even thinking about the bagger shield they offer but wanted to get more info before going in any direction. Right now, I'm thinking about just adding the vent to my Tall Tulsa. What has everyone else done?

There's a Fork Tunnel baffle you might want to remove, see if that is enough air.
2 small screws and it will drop down, tape it from moving.
Tho in rain you'll get some droplets UP through that space.

Know its new taste and be loyal, you'll know when to change that oil.
Taste testing as the miles flow, souring as that acid grows.
And don't flirt with dirt or darkened oil, all the faster your engine will spoil.

Its easy to cut and add the vent and well worth the effort. Placement of wind deflectors is critical to comfort. If you only have the lower wing might want to add the upper and mirror wing. Windshield deflectors are great

With the tall Tulsa it is made to have the wind go over your head and passenger head too, no air movement at all. A vent will definitely help and have the fork tunnels open to will help. I have a show chrome windshield, extra wide and extra tall and cut 4 inches out of the height. I look over the windshield.
It's not what you buy, it's what you build.

I see you have a GL1500.

The best wind wings I have ever used that did the job perfectly was the Baker Built wings with the upper deflectors.

The uppers will throw air right at you when adjusted to do so. I had them installed at the Billings, MT Wing ding in 2000. That was in July of the year and it was a great time to test them. I did not have a vented windshield at the time. The vent was always a pain to clean around and had a tendency to let in bugs, most notably wasps and bees. Don't like them critters. So no vent for me.

The Baker Built wings are a little over $200 for the set and they come in different colors if you are a mind to be colorful.

Yep those are the same wind wings that I have. They help move the air a lot. I may look into the fork tunnel removal idea and see what happens.

What made more difference to me than anything else was a set of hand wings: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=12248

They direct a ton of air right up to you where it counts. They do a lot more than the wind wings I have mounted down below.

I have seen the hand wings and have wanted some but, my side wind wings are blue and I am looking for a set of blue ones. I don't want to have to change the rest out to match. I'm anal about keeping things the same...
