Need help!! Bolt ID

Postby newtothe1996wing » Thu Aug 04, 2016 12:57 pm

Removed all front plastic, airfilter and radiators in search of fuel leak.
Tightened the mounting clamps, found nothing leaking.
Now after reinstalling everything have these two bolts left. 10mm head.

Any thoughts on where they go???

Not positive but I do see a shoulder on it behind the head of one. This indicates that it probably held a body panel to metal. The shoulder allows the plastic a bit of space to live in.
The size is nothing I recall on the outside mounting hardware.
By the way..did you locate the fuel leak?

I agree they mount plastic to metal probably, but cant remember where, lol
As to gas smell, seems better after tighting mounting clamps but still there somewhat. but now I know it is not fuel leaking that could cause fire. Need to ride it some and see then. Thanks for asking. Love the bike, but what a PITA to work on. While plastic was off I added LEDs to cornering and now run all the time, VERY bright and white, they mount my position LEDs

The most common fuel leak that's hard to locate comes from the auto fuel shutoff petcock valve.

Auto shutoff is perfect, literately looks like new, no leak, dust nothing .
Unique thing about this bike is that was sitting almost 20 years inside under cover. Only has 10k now(2k ) when I got it. So most everything looks and is in new condition.
Once i find where these bolts go I am going to ride the bike some and see if maybe seal/gaskets got dry from sitting, didnt ride for about 2 months.
So hot here I ride my sportster with NO fairing=lots of air.
