GL1500 V's Valkyrie universal joint.

Postby sanglasmick » Tue Aug 16, 2016 4:59 am

Hi all,

I think I need to replace my UJ. There is a whining noise starting to come from my drive train and a slight grumble in the foot pegs.

So my question is, how can I visually tell the difference between the 88 to 96 GL1500 UJ and the Valkyrie UJ? I would like to have the parts on hand before stripping, as the bike is my daily rider. (1996 GL1500 with 65K miles on it). I need to replace my rear tyre and pads at the same time so cost is an issue. I know I will need the later boot also.

Pictures anyone?

Thanks in advance.

All gl1500 u-joints (88 to 2000) are now shipped from (Honda) with the newer style beefed up Valkyrie style parts.

Thanks Dingdong,

I was thinking used? Maybe Ebay as cost is a factor.

Appreciate the input.

Like already stated, any new ones you get are likely to be Valk U-joints. In actuality, it is the two yokes of the Valk joint that are a little beefier than the GL's ..... the cross and bearings cups are the same.

But here is a picture.

Many thanks CrystalPistol.

That will make identification much easier on auction sites. My nearest Honda dealer is 85 miles away and has quoted €155 for the UJ and €65 for the boot plus Tax @23%!

This is the best Goldwing forum out there, I've never been disappointed with the help and advise available.

Great job.
