Front Brake Rotors

Postby rampal55 » Thu Aug 18, 2016 9:13 am

Can anyone tell me the difference between the left and right front brake rotors? I looked at a parts diagram and they have different part #'s. 45251-MT8-000 for the right side and 45351-MT8-000 for the left side, this is for a 95 Gl1500 SE.I am going to replace the front tire and want to know how important it is to keep them on the same side when I reinstall. Also, any ideas for fixing a warped rotor? Front shimmies a little when I use the rear brake.

Tire replacement? Hopefully you marked which side goes where. If not are your valve stems angled?
It's odd you took off the rotors just for a tire change. Or am I reading the post wrong?

Before doing the below, are you eyeballing or using a dial indicator? if I remember, 0.003 out is considered good.
Mark each rotor to there side and mark it for same holes replacement. If not, re-positioning to different holes.
If it's actually warped you might try prying it back, but beware the metal gets weaker.
Shims will get it close but it's REALLY difficult. Been there, done it on an old van.
Part No. difference might be there code to know which side is being replaced.

Good Luck!

My main question was why the different part numbers for the front rotors. I now always take the rotors off to insure there is no damage done to them while replacing tire. Not all mechanics treat equipment as their own. I think my last tire changer damaged the rotor? So once again, why the different part #'s for the front rotors? Just curious.

AHHhhh.
My tire changes are on a tire, rotors never touch ground.
I tried stacking 2 tires for more height, didn't work, too floppy.

As for the different part numbers. What I understand is the last several digits is a different part.
PartZilla:

#14 _ DISK, R. FR. BRAKE _ 45251-MT8-000 _ $333.98 _ $236.96 _ 1
#16 _ DISK, L. FR. BRAKE _ 45351-MT8-000 _ $333.98 _ $236.96 _ 1

Both exactly the same prices hints they are the same rotor. BUT I'm not positive. My non Honda past parts ordering days say they would be.
Helping to eliminate the variables.

The left one (linked side) has L stamped on it, while the other has R stamped on it!

It looks like the "L" and "R" post pretty well covers it. My understanding of Honda part numbers is, the first digits are different parts, the last digits are indicators or different suppliers of the same part. The middle letters don't seem to vary that much.

WOW, part number first. That's opposite what I've ordered.
Always went, "supplier, part number". Ace, HWI, Coast to Coast, True Value, just to name a few.
