GL1500 Water Pump

Postby 91goldwing » Fri Aug 26, 2016 9:48 am

Hey all I'm going to do a timing belt and water pump change on my bike this winter. I understand that NAPA sells a timing belt PT# 250275. Do they also sell the water pump or is that a dealer only part? I also seen on here a link to how to change both but it has been a while. I am a ASE mechanic so doing the work will be a snap for me but I always search out the information before digging into a job, call id CYA. :o :P

The parts you need are reasonable here...
http://www.partzilla.com/parts/search/H ... parts.html
They are OEM. There is a size listed next to the part #, maybe you'll find them local.

There are after market water pumps, off hand I don't know. Goog-search.
Last fall I heard the chinese parts are one to stay away from.
Ebay used are not bad, may have to dig for its mileage. I got my spare pump, Ebay $20.00 with 41K miles.

Napa T-Belts is what I bought also. Changed at 121K, now @ 195K.
My OEM belts were still like new, all the lettering were near pristine. No wear on the teeth (used a x10 mag-glass). Bent'm backwards no cracking sound. I wanted to keep using them but.... it's an interference engine.

Know its new taste and be loyal, you'll know when to change that oil.
Taste testing as the miles flow, souring as that acid grows.
And don't flirt with dirt or darkened oil, all the faster your engine will spoil.

You'll have to get the water pump and associated gaskets/crush washers etc from a Honda Parts Dealer

Rock Auto has the Gates T275 timing belts for $12.94 each, plus shipping(<$5) and if you do a Google search for a Rock Auto coupon, you can save a further 5%

You can buy the Gates T275 timing belts from Amazon here:

https://www.amazon.com/Gates-T275-Timin ... ingdocs-20

They sell them for $15 each, and because you buy two, you get free shipping.

Do not use an aftermarket water pump on your GL1500. Honda OEM only!

Also make sure the water pump you get is for your model year.
Napa # for belts is, 250275
Enjoy the ride. They are all good, just some better than others.
