Compressor fun

Postby Breyno » Wed Sep 07, 2016 1:54 am

I had an hour so spare today, so for **** and giggles I decided to take out the compressor and re-blue the desiccant. :D

Wasn't that fun. Well actually it was because I hadn't had a chance to strip the back end down since I got Norma.

I re-blued the desiccant, but was wondering how much needed to be in there. there was a lot of real fine peices, so i can only assume it has degraded over time into fine particles.

I can't seem to find anywhere that says how much should be there. I would say, with the filters the tube was 3/4 full.

PS I found that 50 degrees C for 5-6 minutes in the oven did the trick nicely.

I couldn't find any published amount of desiccant. I did find a couple of threads where guys measured the desiccant and all said about 1/3 cup. Hope this helps! Probably not really critical to be exact.

I wonder if those little packets that one finds in almost everything now could be opened up and added to your mix.

i think you will find most of the smaller silicate packets are too small/fine, and even though you have filters, they may work themselves past the filters and into the ram areas. Maybe there are some bigger ones out there, but of those little bags I have seen have been really small.

Can you explain to me how to remove the compressor, do I need to lift the rear or can I take it out when the seat is off, and how many bolts..
my problem is that air is leaking out of the compressor, hopefully it's not to hard to replace what needs to be or maybe something is just loose.. and I can re tight it.

your help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I sprayed soap water on my compress and I noticed that air bubbles is coming out of the end of compress where there is a small screw.. and a hole at bottom.. like a little valve.

I took it apart and cooked the beads until they came blue, put it back and notices the air coming out of this valve thing.
do I need to buy another compressor or change that little screw..

Dan
