I can't swear to it, but I think that they are spring loaded to close. Pull off that panel and see what is keeping them from closing. It is a really simple system.
Ride safe, and smart. Asphalt is like #1 grit sandpaper. Dave

Friend of mine's were hung up .....I thought to adjust them (they are some adjustable at the lower end cable entry) ..... but in his case, the problem was someone had messed up reassembling the cable where it wound around the control knob at some point in the past. I looked at it, figured it out, corrected .... fixed. You'll remove rt side fairing storage, remove a screw in knob, slide knob off and undo nut and pull it out back and down as I recall ...
... it was a few years ago.

ARE you talking about the vents on the lower part of the cowlings or the vent on the headers/muffler..above is for the to the vents on the lower cowling not much to them a shaft fits in a slot and opens and closes a flap to get at it you have to remove the lower cowling..

I have a quick side question if you all don't mind. I have a 92 GL1500A, is it possible to add foot warmers to my GW? Thanks

Found out they are operated by cable and the cable is messed up (bent) on the right hand door. A winter time repair.
