Wanna Rumble?

Postby darryldevaney » Mon Oct 03, 2016 11:01 am

Last week I finally got around to trying to replace my back brake pads which wore out on my big trip in July. I wound up having to do the trick of lifting the rear end to do it, but still think there has to be a better way.

Anyway, we had taken the mufflers off to do the job and the rotor was a bit rough so we decided before reassembling everything to spin the back wheel and do a diy rotor flattening (bike on jack, running in 5th gear at idle, using an angle grinder; worked beautifully). I have to say that for the 5 minutes or so that we had it running without the mufflers, I was feeling a very deep level of satisfaction with the throaty rumble coming out of the open exhaust. Kind of makes me want to try some straight pipes.

So, my question for you all is whether anyone else has done this and what long term things have happened as a result of getting a little more sound out of the exhaust?

p.s. I tried searching but must not know the trick to find what I wanted...

to replace the rear brakes on my 1500 wing i take off the seat, lower trunk trim piece, left side cover, left lower corner on the saddlebag and the saddlebag itself. once those are out of the way I'm looking at the caliper and nothing is in the way of doing a brake job

I got "a little more sound" out of the exhaust on my '76 Wing when it had stock Harley mufflers on it.
Long term effects?
My wife and I BOTH got a good headache after riding it for about an hour or so.
....and it sorta pissed off the neighbors.

My '99 GL has a sound that I really REALLY enjoy!...The sound of my MP3 player coming through
the stereo speakers!
